Holmes & Daughters was first established in 1993 in Ashford, Middlesex, by brothers David and Andrew Holmes. Andrew had industry experience, having taken an apprenticeship with a well-known firm, whilst David managed the finances. The brothers’ interest in the funeral business stemmed from their stepfather being a coroner’s officer, and they were keen to establish their own family business.

Enlisting the help of family members including their other two brothers, sister, sister-in-law and some close family friends, the business thrived as it offered an alternative to the established funeral directors in the area. Due to a good reputation, Holmes & Daughters was soon able to expand, opening offices in Feltham in 1994, Teddington in 1995 and East Sheen in 1996.

However, due to unfortunate circumstances the Holmes family decided to sell their business to G M Luff & Partners in 2000. John Holmes stayed on with G M Luff & Partner as a Board member with responsibility for the day to day running of the area he was so familiar with.

As part of the Ford Mears group, Holmes & Daughters continues to provide a caring and professional service to the local community around Feltham, Hounslow and Stanwell.

Further investment in the business by Ford Mears has meant that Holmes & Daughters is now able to offer a wider range of services and vehicle options, whilst still providing a personalised service that honours the legacy of Holmes & Daughters’ independent, family-run business.

Liz started in the funeral industry 25 years ago, when the Holmes brothers decided to start their own business and asked friends and family to work with them. Liz was 35 years old at the time, her children were all off at school, and she was very keen for the opportunity. She took a course for Funeral Operatives (removals, driving removal vans, hearses and limousines) to support the arranging and conducting skills learned mainly ‘on the job’. Never has a day gone by when Liz says she has not looked forward to coming to work.

Debbie’s early career began as a Sole Charge Children’s Nanny many years ago, and then she transitioned to the NHS, where she provided support to patients and their families at the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital in various administrative roles. She took a break from her career to have her two children and returned to the workforce as a Teaching Assistant at a local school. This role brought her immense satisfaction, as she knew that her support was instrumental in helping children navigate the various educational and social milestones in their lives. In 2014, Debbie completed her Early Years Degree through the Open University and co-owned a Children’s Nursery in Whitton with a close friend. Over the course of six years, she had the privilege of guiding and supporting young children in developing life skills and achieving early educational goals. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they were forced to close their nursery in March 2020. Despite this setback, Debbie’s desire to help others remained strong, leading her to explore a new path in Funeralcare. She started working at Co-op Funeralcare Whitton in November 2020 and later joined Ford Mears in August 2023. Debbie wholeheartedly embraces her role, offering empathy and compassion to people in their time of need. As a Bereavement Cafe volunteer, she is always ready to extend a comforting hand and a listening ear, and she’s never far from putting the kettle on if someone simply needs to talk.

We understand that many family and friends wish to give donations to a charity in memory of the deceased and we see this as an important part of the service that we offer.

Our donations page is simple and easy to use. We’ve partnered with Memory Giving, a recognised donation platform for Funeral Directors to coordinate and collect memoriam donations. We set up the page for you, the page has the following optional features a photo of your loved one, space for a message, details of the service with a map and a space for tributes to be left. The page will typically close 6-8 weeks from the date it was created. 

Every donor will receive an acknowledgment, thanking them for their donation. Donations can be made securely by debit or credit card, with donations going straight to your nominated charity. The option of Gift Aid is available, with Gift Aid recovery, provide on behalf of the charity increases the gift by upwards of 18%.

Located opposite Tesco on the High Street with a small parade of shops set back slightly from the road. Tesco’s car park is opposite and can be used for 3 hours and similarly Pets at Home, Toptiles and Carpet Direct’s car park facilities. Both entranced from the High Street.
